Fast food was always considered to be junk food that you can have in less than 5 minutes however the definition of fast food is more of processed foods such as white bread, potatoes, pasta, biscuits, sweets and pastries.

Wholesome foods is kind of the opposite of fast foods it is mainly fruits ,vegetables ,whole grains, nuts and seeds. Eating a white bread turkey sandwich is considered fast food however it might be low in calories, learn how to chose fresh and natural meals. Healthy food require some time in the kitchen and does not contain nutrition facts.

The slow food movement is also a way of rebelling from fast food which encourages traditional ways of farming and eating they gather fruits and veggies from farmers rather than food plants.

Example of a wholesome lunch:

Wheat berrie salad :

Spinach, tomatoes, pomegranate seeds, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, grilled organic chicken breast, boiled wheat berries, cucumbers, avocado, lemon juice and a dash of olive oil.

Oils vs nuts

The Mediterranean diet is a very reputable diet for its benefits of lowering cardiovascular disease however we tend to talk about the benefits of olive oil and red wine rather than antioxidants and minerals coming from vegetables and nuts that are very abundant in this diet.

Olive oil contains monounsaturated fats which are better than trans fats and saturated fats found in butter and industrial food.Nuts are high in sterols, stanols, fibers, minerals, lignans and other health promoting nutrients that help lower cholesterol level in blood. Oils can be calorie dense and add up to your daily calorie count.

A small amount of olive oil in salads is perfectly fine for physically active people. For weight loss regimens, a handful of nuts will curb cravings and lower the risk of feeling hungry through the day.
